My boyfriend gave funny nicks to his chars, but still - with meaning
Keleborn Manchiz (ele) - Keleborn for husband of Galadriel from Lord of the Rings. Manchiz...well, manchiz is manchiz.
Mongo Manchiz (NF ele) is an older brother of Keleborn.
Mr Alfonzo (ranger) - doesn't really have a meaning, except I also thought about making a new char and naming it Ms Alfonzo.

My chars are all named Siren, and all female. Sirens are female sea-creatures that look good but in the end lure people to their death by singing. I love funny names people sometimes give to their chars. A friend of mine named his characters after the characters in Stephen King's Dark Tower books (with a monk called Father Callahan, a black female ele called Susannah Dean etc.). I met a warrior with a luxon crab called 'I have crabs', lmao, or a monk called: 'Ride My Holy Rod'. Sometimes it even comes in handy, in alliance battles i saw an enemy ranger/necro called 'Let me touch u n00b', needless to say that the whole mob started pounding him after I called him as a target :P
I'm guilty of tasteless behaviour sometimes too, but my sense if humour is a little twisted. I wanted to call my melandru's stalker 'Osama', because it's te arabic word for lion, but it wasn't allowed .

Kade shi = gardens of kadeshi from Homeworld, those levels were really well designed and I've used the name Kade ever since.
Dee Dee Daa = fast and easy to type when I used to have to reroll PvP chars all the time. Plus I think people find it extremely irritating to be killed by a player with this name

Pee Vee Pee Warrior ... its a PvP Warrior!
Smitey Mcsmitesmite ... its a monk!
Hexy McHexerson ... its a hexer!
I See Dead Petple ... its a minion master!
And give a male Nightfall elementalist big fizzy hair and a moustache make him white and name him Borat for plenty of giggles.

I always loved War Craft. Not WOW but the old strategy game. Star Craft was fun to but the best names come from the Orcs in War Craft Tides of Darkness. Most of them were taken so I had to put a little spin on them.
Chieftain Heavyhand- Chieftain Blackhand the Cruel
Count Chogall - Cho'gall the Ogre mage
Queen Guldan - Gul'dan the Warlock
Orgrim Wormtounge - Orgrim Doomhammer
Lord Kilrog - Kill'rogg Deadeye
Then there are my characters I named from later versions:
Nerzhul Dragonmaw - From Ner'zhul and the Dragonmaw clan
Duchess Hellscream - Grom Hellscream
Thrall Lightbringer - Thrall and the last name from a human hero character
Azeroth Blackmoore - Azeroth the land the humans are defending and a twist on Proudmoore and Blackhand

My female mesmer - Alastrine Isolde - is actually two names of female characters from medieval European tales.
My female warrior - Sigdriffa Olrun - is actually the name of two Valkyries. I thought it fitting.

I have four characters named: Catherine of D Ni, Ti Ana of D Ni, Yeesha of D Ni, Atrus Son of Gehn and Aitrus of D Ni...after characters from a computer game/book series that has recently (within the last 6 months I think) been concluded.
My sixth character is named for a greek goddess, my seventh is just a generic name referring to a guardian of Rivendell. (LOTR Reference)

All my characters have the last name "Mouse". I got the nickname Mega Mouse while driving trucks, seeing as I could put a truck anywhere no matter how small the hole. I continued using that nickname through several games: Soldier of Fortune 1+2, RF-Online Guild Wars, Halo, Far Cry, and several others. The name seemed to fit so I kept it.

Okay, I've waited for a thread like this for a while. This is going to be LONG, I appologize.
If I so choose, I usually either base my characters around some of my favourite chracters in the novels, or, I simply gather inspiration from those in-book characters and try to create a name new on its own.
The main novels I usually get inspiration from are the Dragonlance or Forgotten Realms novels. But that's not always the case.
Lord Volkh:
.. was a name that I created while thinking of the main character of a book I once read. The main character's father, known as Volkh Nagarian, or Lord Volkh, and had died, thus he was destined to take his place, not knowing the dark secrets his father kept. The main being, he was called "Lord Drakhoul", or "Drakhaon", which basically meant dragon warrior. So, naturally I created a Warrior ... I have yet to get my dragon armor though.
Aurik Songbringer and Caela Radek:
... are two names which I created on my own for use in my own novel. In fact, most names that I think of for my characters in GW are either already used in my novel, or I plan to use in the future, such as Talon Bliss, who is my assassin. Both Aurik and Caela are Warriors. If I had to seek some form of definition for their names, "Aurik", is a character in one of Jack Kirby's comic book series The TeenAgents. He can basically control his own mass and density. "Songbringer" is in reference to the plot of my own novel, which I won't get into detail now because I will go on forever, more so than I know I already will.
"Caela" is a Gaelic name, and means "Slender." It is a variant of Caley or Cailley: (French) 'from the forest'." It is also a variant of the name Cayla or more modernly, "Kayla". Kayla means a number of things in different cultures. In Arabic it means "wise child", in English (Kay) it means "Keeper of the Keys, or 'pure'". In Greek (Kay) it means "rejoice", and in Hebrew it means "laurel" or "crown".
And Radek is simply a last name I found someone Americanized but at the same time European in that it sounds like the name of some sort of medieval character. Like Merek. If you want a meaning for Radek too though, he was a character in Stargate Atlantis ... which has nothing to do with this at all.
Talon Bliss:
... when I created the name "Talon Bliss" it was more that I wanted to imbue a name which was sweet but deadly at the same time, you know? Which I thought suited the Assassin well. Also, to show a sense of "joy" in killing I guess.
I'm also incredibly fond of Elven things, particularly Elves in general. Drow are pretty awsome. Anyway, my Ranger, Lysalla Arienas, and my Mesmer, Skyra Valia, I treated like Elves.
Lysalla Arienas:
My Ranger; means "Wolf of the Night Breeze; Autumn's Silver Bow" in elven. Well, elven, or Elvish/Elfish, in the way that I learned it, to an extent. I don't actually use a 'name generator', and if I do, it's not the typical "enter your name here and press enter to receive your elven name" thing; I combined various 'elven' prefixes and suffixes together to form the name.
Skyra Valia:
... is simply a mix of A) a close friend's name; Skyra and B) the first name that popped into my head that went well with the first; Valia. And I thought it sounded unusually elvish. Although, Valia Kakouti is a Greek model?
She's also a Mesmer, and I thought it suited her character well. Plus I love the name Skyra.
Nightlord Dalanar:
My Dervish; is simply a combination of a position of recognition (Nightlord) in the novels of the Dragonlance series (particularly later on), and Dalanar, is simply an altered version of "Dalamar", or "Dalamar the Dark" from Dragonlance ... who is my favourite character, and, although my character is not a mage, I thought it suited him well because of the robes. I just need black dye ...
Lastly, my two newest characters, Luthien Thunderbane and Deep Mania, are a bit different.
Luthien Thunderbane:
The name "Luthien" came from one of J.R.R. Tolkien's characters, Lúthien Tinúviel; "Lúthien" meaning "enchantress" in elven. "Thunderbane" is simply something I found appropriate to her class, which is Elementalist, who specializes in Air Spiking at the moment (not a thought when I originally made her).
Deep Mania:
Deep is something of a random happening. I originally wanted a Necromancer that I could make and mold into a grand old Minion Master, and thusly dubbed the character "The Corpse Queen" for a time, until I got bored with looking at all the glitched hair models for the Nightfall Necromancers. I also found "The Corpse Queen" to be kind of ... simple. There was no thought in it. I had wanted "The Corpse King" but it was taken. So I deleted her, and created a Monk, only I called him "Divine Mania". I realised I really wanted a Necromancer, so I again deleted this character, re-created in on Tyrian-fashion, and dubbed him "Deep Mania" once again.
The name "Deep", comes from "Deep Duerra", who is a Dwarven goddess in R.A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms novels. Deep Durerra is Goddess of duergar, psionics, conquest, and expansion. Particularly I found the name "Deep" to be interesting, so I simply combined it with "Mania", not because I'm Emo and the term refers to severe elevations in moods (significant of Bipolar Disorder), but because "Mania" happens to be one of my favourite Greek deities.
Mania was the personification of insanity. In Roman mythology, she was the goddess of the dead. She was said to be the mother of ghosts, the undead and other spirits of the night. And although my new Necromancer is MALE, I think the name suits him well.
End.

Kendar Muert- The main character of a book im writing, but since in my book he uses a spear in the book and i made him pre-nightfall, hes a necro, cause i thought the name went with it. Muert means dead.
Elana Avrenkar- Also a main character for my book. The character is fond of performing illusions, although pitifully, so shes my mesmer.
Bane of Triagia(pvp war)- Bane of the continent of Triagia, from Raymond E Fiests Riftwar saga
Bane of the Jal Pur- same as above, but the Jal Pur is a desert, and hes a pve war
Servant of Abaddon- My level 2 dervish, just cause i like the name..
Jinn Master- I liked the english spelling of Djinn better than Djinn, so i put my ele's name as master of the djinn.. before nightfall lol.
General Nightsbane- a cool name i picked for my ranger
General Darksbane- a good monk name
General Djinn- A play off of Jinn Master- my paragon
Arenia Avenstar- Another name from my book- my rit.
Fast Casting Act- Pvp mes
Queen Avrenkar- again, from my book.. any female char for pvp
Imperio Mort Magiea- I command dead mages, is what it means. If they have another class that can do something like that that fits with the name i may make it pve instead of pvp.
Muley Mcmuleyman- My mule. Lvl 3 ele from factions.

My purchase of GW was due to the pleas of my son (I had bought it for him for his birthday). So when I started naming characters, I wasn't sure that I would still be playing in another month. So the naming was careless in the beginning.
W/R - Darcy Sa Renn - Darcy means dark in Gaelic; the Sa Renn I made up, but the two-part format might be from re-reading the Liad series. Her pet is named Cindy after a favorite dog.
Me/W - Salitha De Couer - wanted something elegant for her and didn't like the "de la" style. I don't know the meaning of Salitha. If anyone does, let me know.
Then my son mentioned that he was using Latin for names. So --
Mo/Me - Nex Curo - which means Death Cure in Latin. Nex wants to be a healer although there are a few smiting skills that have caught her eye. She is still training at lvl 17.
R/Me - Theela Monkbane - Theela from "Forgotten Realms" and the Monkbane because she was meant to be a Cripshot ranger. Factions came out and I remade her in Cantha, forgetting that it would be a long time before I could get the elite skill in Tyria. Her pet, a tiger, is named Tigger.
I was now at the point where I was hooked on GW, so naming became adding characters to an RPG family. I decided to make the Sa Renn's a merchant family who travel widely and therefore have relatives everywhere. They encourage any family member not interested in trading to become a fighter or healer. There is nothing better than family when you need guards. Salitha, Nex and Theela are cousins to Darcy and each other.
Rit/Mo - Jas Sa Renn - Just liked the Jas, didn't know that it is Sikh meaning Praises. She's a ritualist in training; needs a lot of work.
N/Me - Malise Sa Renn - Malise means "servant of god" in Gaelic. She is Darcy's younger sister and just starting on her career (lvl 14). She doesn't like minions for which Darcy is grateful.
D/x - Insaf Sa Renn - her first name means Justice in Arabic. She is another cousin currently working in Vabbi.
E/x - Inas Sa Renn - her name is also Arabic and means Sociability. Which fits well as she is currently being used as a mule and just hangs around in Kamadan. She'll have to start learning her profession someday, but she is in no rush.

Couldn't think of a name for my first character so tomake it easy I named it after the color green - Mr. Mortimer Green.
Then decided to name them all after pieces in the game of clue
Prof Geoffrey Plum
Mrs Eugenia White
Col James Mustard
Lady Anne Scarlet
Antoinette Peacoque (Anet wouldn't let me use Peacock)
My guild - Scotland Yard [CLUE]
My pets - after the weapons
Merrick - the inventor of the wrench
Elkington - one inventor of silverplating (the candlestick)
Blackie - James Black made the first Bowie Knife
Harrington - inventor of indoor plumbing - made the first flush toilet for Queen Victoria (was later banished from court for lewdness because he bragged too much about his invention and how it worked)
Cartwright - inventor of an industrial rope making machine
Colt - inventor of the revolver
Got three more with nightfall - named them as family members of fictional detectives
Lamont Cranston Jr - son of the Shadow (Assasin/Mesmer - following in his father's footsteps with skills learned in the East and "the ability to cloud men's minds")
Dame Irene Holmes - based on Rex Stout's speech "Dr Watson was a Woman" (going for legendary defender of Ascalon)
Tex Murphy Jr - son of bumbling detective in 5 great PC games. (necromancer - A conflicted young man - Tex Sr's mysterious Disappearance at the end of "Overseer" has made Tex Jr turn to the dark side to locate his father living or dead)

Ok, well, first my screen name here. I've been using it for just about as long as I've been playing games online or registering for forums. Rogue is from Rogue Squadron in Star Wars and 42 was Ronnie Lott's number and also what I wore playing sports in High School. As for my characters:
Nairb Retsof - Warrior - My first and last names backwards
Fangor Thaumaturge - Ele - Fangor I just threw on there because it fit in front of the other name. I think also it comes from LotR. Thaumaturge is another name for a wizard or magician.
Caine of Ankhana - Assassin - Main character in the book Heroes Die. Should be Caine of Garthan Hold, but it wouldn't fit. He's a knife fighter/close combat expert so I thought it fit.
Raithe of Ankhana - Monk - Also a character in a book, called Blade of Tyshalle, sequel to Heroes Die. He's a monk, but not a healer. He was diplomat, but all monks of the order were trained in combat.
Randell Flagg - Necro - From Stephen King's The Stand.
Corran Anor - Dervish - Combination of names from Star Wars novels. Corran Horn, a pilot in Rogue Squadron who later became a Jedi Knight. Nom Anor, a baddie from The New Jedi Order series of books.
There are several others, mostly having names from Star Wars, but they are currently just mules.
